My brothers and sisters, today we celebrate St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus, the "Little Flower," a Doctor of the Church. Her spiritual genius, the "Little Way," finds a beautiful resonance with our challenging Gospel today. We find three key lessons: Fidelity, Foundation, and Focus.

First, Fidelity. St. Thérèse showed us that holiness isn't found in grand, heroic acts, but in doing small things with great love. This is fidelity—faithfulness in the mundane. Nehemiah, in the First Reading, was faithful to his desire to rebuild Jerusalem, patiently waiting and asking the King. St. Thérèse’s fidelity was her daily duty as a Carmelite nun. Our call is the same: to be faithful in the little moments—the small kindnesses, the hidden sacrifices, the consistent prayer—for these are the true measures of love.

Second, Foundation. The Gospel reminds us of the radical requirements of discipleship: Jesus has "nowhere to lay his head." Our ultimate security cannot be in earthly goods, relationships, or comforts; our foundation must be Christ alone. St. Thérèse embraced this truth by making a joyful profession of her complete trust and childlike confidence in God's merciful love. If Christ is our foundation, no worldly insecurity can truly shake us.

Finally, Focus. Jesus says: "No man putting his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God." Discipleship demands complete focus and detachment. We cannot hesitate or look backward at the world we left behind. St. Thérèse was intensely focused on her one great goal: to save souls and to pray for priests. She was entirely given over to love. What is distracting your focus from the "plough" of your Christian life? St. Thérèse reminds us to keep our eyes locked on Christ and the Kingdom, allowing nothing to hold us back.

Let us embrace the Fidelity of the Little Way, make Christ our sole Foundation, and maintain the single-minded Focus required to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Amen.
