Dear friends, today we celebrate the Memorial of Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, a man whose life perfectly embodied the readings. I offer you three words that capture the day's message and his spirit: Obedience, Openness, and Offering.

The Gospel gives us the perfect definition of a true disciple: not simply those related to Jesus by blood, but "those who hear the word of God and act on it." This is the call to Obedience. St. Padre Pio's life was one of profound obedience to God's will, even when it meant enduring the stigmata, spiritual attacks, and ecclesiastical scrutiny. He lived the Word.

The completion of the Temple in the First Reading shows the fruit of Openness to God's command. The people finished the great work because they were open to the prophecies and the decrees of the kings, who were instruments of God. Padre Pio was known for his openness to the Holy Spirit, seeing Christ’s suffering and grace manifest in his own body. He was open to the spiritual reality that many others missed.

Finally, his life, like the Temple dedication, was a continuous Offering. They offered bulls and lambs; Padre Pio offered his entire life—his pain, his prayers, his ministry in the confessional—for the redemption of souls.

Let the challenge of Padre Pio's life inspire us. Let us practice radical Obedience to God's commands, maintain an Openness to His grace in our lives, and make our whole existence a beautiful and sacrificial Offering for others. Amen.
