"Today we celebrate St. Agnes, a young girl, a virgin martyr. She faced the 'Goliath' of the Roman Empire with nothing but her faith. Her feast day pairs beautifully with the story of David and Goliath. Let us look at three 'C's: Confidence, Compassion, and Chastity.
First, Confidence. David was a small boy facing a giant warrior. Saul tried to put heavy armor on him, but it didn't fit. David’s Confidence wasn’t in the sword or shield; it was in the Lord of Hosts. We all have giants—debt, addiction, a broken relationship, a scary diagnosis. We often try to fight them with worldly armor—money, connections, or worry. David teaches us that one smooth stone of faith is enough if thrown with trusting Confidence in God.
Second, Compassion. In the Gospel, Jesus sees a man with a withered hand. The Pharisees are watching to see if He breaks the Sabbath rules. Jesus asks, 'Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath?' He places Compassion above safety. He heals the man, knowing it will lead to His death.
Third, Chastity. St. Agnes is the patron saint of Chastity. In a world that often sexualizes everything, she reminds us that purity is a form of spiritual strength. It is the courage to say that my body and my soul belong to God alone. Like David, she was young; like Jesus, she was persecuted.
Whatever giant you are facing today, do not look at how big the problem is. Look at how big your God is. Have Confidence, practice Compassion, and honor God with your life."
