My brothers and sisters in Christ, today's readings offer us a powerful trilogy of spiritual action: Restoration, Revelation, and Responsibility.
In the First Reading, we hear of Restoration. The great King Cyrus, moved by the Lord, decrees the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem. This was an invitation to the exiles to physically restore a sacred place, but more profoundly, it was an invitation to restore their relationship with God, to renew their identity as God's people. We, too, are constantly invited to restore what sin has broken in our lives.
The Gospel gives us the next step: Revelation. Jesus tells us a lamp is not covered up, but put on a stand so its light may be seen. There is nothing hidden that will not be made manifest. This light is Christ Himself, and when we embrace His grace, He shines in us. His truth is meant to be shown, to be the light that guides others.
Finally, we arrive at Responsibility. Jesus concludes, "Take heed therefore how you hear." We are responsible for the light we've been given, for the word we've heard, and for the restoration we've received. Our restored life, our revelation of Christ's light, is not for us alone; it's our responsibility to shine it through our good deeds, so others may glorify our Heavenly Father. Let us commit today to this great task: to accept God’s Restoration, live out His Revelation, and shoulder our Responsibility to be the light of the world. Amen.
