Mastery, Ministry, Mobilization (October 22, 2025: St. John Paul II)

My dear friends, the readings today are a powerful echo of the call to Christian living. St. Paul in Romans speaks of a change in servitude: we are called to move from being slaves of sin to becoming slaves of Righteousness. This is about gaining Mastery over our bodies and passions, so that our members are weapons for good, not wickedness.

The Gospel continues the theme of Readiness and adds the profound warning of the faithful and unfaithful steward. The essence of the warning is simple: "Much will be required of the person entrusted with much." We have all been given the gift of faith, grace, and unique talents. These gifts are meant for Ministry—for faithful service to the Master's household.

This concept of faithful Ministry is perfectly exemplified by St. John Paul II, whose optional memorial we keep today. His 27-year pontificate was a global lesson in faithful stewardship. He used his immense gifts and influence—his Mastery of theology, languages, and media—to lead the Church in a world that desperately needed Christ. His legacy is one of constant Mobilization—of going out to the world, crossing boundaries, and challenging us to live the New Evangelization.

He didn't just know the Master's will; he acted on it tirelessly. The call today is to stop making excuses. Let us ask: Have I put my gifts to use? Have I gained Mastery over my temptations? Am I engaging in my Christian Ministry? Let us embrace the spirit of St. John Paul II and move from passive waiting to active Mobilization for the Kingdom. Amen.
