My brothers and sisters, anyone who works in media, communications, or publishing knows the weight of getting a message right. Whether you are laying out a print design, directing an online broadcast, or managing a studio, the goal is always clear: to take a concept and transmit it powerfully and accurately to an audience.
Today’s readings are fundamentally about divine communication. In the Gospel, Jesus makes a striking statement about His own ministry. He says, "I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and speak." Jesus is the perfect communicator of the Father’s love. He is the light that pierces the darkness, not drawing attention to Himself for the sake of ego, but serving as the ultimate manifestation of the Father’s will. He fulfills His mandate perfectly.
We see this same dynamic passed down to the early Church in our First Reading. Barnabas and Saul are in Antioch, worshiping and fasting, when the Holy Spirit intervenes. The Spirit says, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." They are given a mandate. They are entrusted with a message. And they are sent out to Cyprus to manifest that truth in the synagogues.
We, too, have been set apart. You do not need to be an ordained minister or a cloistered religious to receive this call. By our baptism, every single one of us has been given a mandate to be a transmitter of Christ’s light. The question we must ask ourselves is: what message is our life currently broadcasting?
When people interact with us in our workplaces, in our families, or in our communities, do they hear the echo of the Father’s love? Or do they hear our own pride, our own frustrations, our own judgments? Jesus tells us that His commandment is eternal life. Let us strive today to be faithful channels of that life. Let us ensure that the message we share, in both our words and our actions, is a true manifestation of the One who sent us.
