Temples, Temporary, Truth (November 25, 2025)

My dear friends, have you ever seen a magnificent building and thought, "This will last forever"? Today, Jesus and the Prophet Daniel remind us of three realities: Temples, the Temporary, and the Truth.

First, Temples. In the Gospel, people were admiring the Temple in Jerusalem. It was their pride and joy, adorned with precious stones and gold—much like how we might admire our beautiful old churches here in the Philippines. But Jesus shocks them. He says, "The days will come when there shall not be left one stone upon another." He wasn't just talking about a building; He was talking about where we place our security. Sometimes we treat our careers, our bank accounts, or our health as "temples"—unshakable and permanent.

This leads us to the second word: Temporary. In the First Reading, King Nebuchadnezzar dreams of a giant statue made of gold, silver, and bronze. It looked invincible. But its feet were made of clay. When a stone struck it, the whole thing collapsed. This is a reminder that everything in this world—regimes, fame, wealth, even our problems—is temporary. The "gold" of this world often stands on feet of clay. We Filipinos know this well; we have seen typhoons flatten strong houses and calamities shake our foundations. Nothing here lasts forever.

But there is Good News. The third word is Truth. In Daniel’s vision, the stone that destroyed the statue became a great mountain that filled the whole earth. That stone represents the Kingdom of God. While the Temple of Jerusalem fell, and the empires of Babylon turned to dust, the Truth of God remains.

So, the challenge for us today is this: Where are you building your life? Are you building on the clay of temporary things, or on the solid rock of Christ? When the earthquakes of life come—and they will come—only what is built on the Truth will stand. Let us stop worshipping temporary temples and start building for the eternal Kingdom.
