My brothers and sisters, today we honor Saint Leo the Great, a Pope and Doctor of the Church, whose life and teachings beautifully echo our readings. We begin with Wisdom, the key theme in our First Reading. Wisdom is not just being clever; it is the gift of knowing God's heart. The book of Wisdom tells us that a malicious soul cannot possess it, but the Holy Spirit of discipline fills the whole world. St. Leo the Great was renowned for his profound wisdom, defending the true faith and guiding the Church with clarity and depth.

This divine wisdom leads us to the second word: Watching. The Gospel passage warns us about scandal and the need for constant forgiveness—seven times a day, if necessary! We must be watching over our actions so we don't become a stumbling block for others, and watching over our hearts so that we are ready to forgive. We also must be watching for the Kingdom of God within us. St. Leo was a faithful shepherd, constantly watching over his flock, correcting error, and teaching the truth.

Finally, we come to Wonder. Jesus tells the Apostles, "Increase our faith!" and He replies that even faith the size of a mustard seed can move a tree. This is a call to wonder at the power of a simple, sincere faith! It is a call to a holy wonder that God would forgive us, that God lives within us, and that God's power works through us. May the wisdom of St. Leo inspire us to be faithful, watchful, and filled with wonder at the boundless grace of God. Amen.
