Magandang araw po sa inyong lahat! Let's reflect on three powerful words from today's readings and the life of Saint Peter Chrysologus: Pearl, Price, and Powerful.
In the Gospel, Jesus tells us about the Kingdom of Heaven, likened to a hidden treasure and a pearl of great price. For us Filipinos, pearls hold a special place. Think of the "Pearl of the Orient Seas," our very own Philippines, rich in natural beauty and a vibrant spirit. Like the merchant who sold everything for that one precious pearl, are we willing to let go of distractions, pride, or worldly attachments to truly embrace the Kingdom of God? This "pearl" isn't just about eternal life; it's about finding true joy and meaning in our daily lives, in our families, and in serving our communities, just as many Filipinos sacrifice much for their loved ones.
The merchant also paid a great price for that pearl. In our culture, we understand sacrifice. Many of our OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers) pay a high price, enduring homesickness and hardship, to provide a better future for their families. They understand that something truly valuable demands a significant investment of time, effort, and even pain. What price are we willing to pay for our faith, for justice, for unity in our society? Are we willing to step out of our comfort zones, to speak truth, and to live out our Christian values, even when it's difficult?
Lastly, we have Saint Peter Chrysologus, known for his powerful preaching. His words moved hearts and minds, leading people closer to God. In the Philippines, we have our own powerful voices – from our beloved priests and religious to community leaders and even ordinary citizens who speak truth and inspire change. The Holy Spirit empowers us, too, to be powerful witnesses of faith, hope, and love in our own spheres, whether in our homes, workplaces, or social circles. Our "powerful" acts of charity, forgiveness, and genuine concern for others can be beacons of Christ's love in a world that desperately needs it.
May these three 'P' words—Pearl, Price, and Powerful—inspire us to seek God's Kingdom with unwavering commitment, to willingly pay the price of discipleship, and to be powerful instruments of His grace in our beautiful Pearl of the Orient. Amen.
