We all know what it feels like to be tired—not just physically, but in our souls. Today’s message is a prescription for that weariness, summarized in three words: Strength, Solace, and Sanctuary.
First, Strength. Isaiah gives us that famous, soaring image: "They that hope in the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar as with eagles’ wings." Notice the condition: They that hope in the Lord. We often burn out because we rely on our own strength. We try to fix our families, our finances, and our future by sheer force of will. But human strength fades. Isaiah reminds us that God is the Creator of the ends of the earth; He does not grow weary. When we plug into His power through prayer, we find the strength to keep running.
Second, Solace. Jesus says in the Gospel, "Come to me... and I will give you rest." This is Solace. It is the "yoke" of Christ. In ancient farming, a yoke allowed two animals to pull a load together. Jesus isn't saying life will have no burdens; He is saying, "Let me share the yoke with you." You don't have to pull the plow alone.
Third, Sanctuary. Today we can also recall Our Lady of Loreto, which honors the Holy House of Nazareth. That house was a sanctuary where Jesus grew in wisdom and grace. We need a sanctuary in our lives—a quiet time or place where we can drop our defenses and just be with God.
Today, stop trying to be the hero. Admit your weakness to God, enter the sanctuary of His heart, find solace in His presence, and let Him renew your strength.
