Mga kapatid, today's readings speak to our core identity as a people who believe. The first word is choice. Joshua challenged the Israelites, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." This is the same choice presented to us today. In our country, we are faced with many choices—choices between good and evil, truth and falsehood, justice and injustice. To be a faithful Filipino is to make a conscious and unwavering choice to serve the Lord, no matter the consequences. The second is covenant. After making their choice, the Israelites renewed their covenant with God. We, too, are a people of the covenant, a nation blessed with a rich Christian heritage. Our covenant with God is our solemn promise to live according to His commandments. This is a covenant that we must live out in our daily lives, in our families, and in our society. The third is children. The Gospel tells us that the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to the "little ones." This is a powerful reminder that in God's eyes, humility, innocence, and trust are far more valuable than worldly power and status. Let us have a childlike trust in God, and may we protect the vulnerable children in our society. May our choices, our covenant, and our love for the little ones lead us to be a truly faithful and blessed nation.
