Mga kapatid, today we celebrate the great feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The readings present us with three themes that are close to the Filipino heart: Fulfillment, Fruitfulness, and Filial love. First, fulfillment. The Virgin Mary is a model for us. She is blessed not only because she is the mother of Jesus, but because she believed that God's promise would be fulfilled. This reminds us that in our own lives, we must have an unwavering faith in God's promises, even when we cannot see them. We, a people of deep Marian devotion, are called to be people of hope, believing that God's plan for us and for our nation will come to fulfillment. Second, fruitfulness. In the Magnificat, Mary sings of God's mercy and how He exalts the humble and fills the hungry with good things. This is a call for us to be fruitful in our faith, not just for ourselves, but for others. Let us be instruments of God's mercy, working to uplift the poor and the marginalized, so that our lives may bear good fruit for His Kingdom. Lastly, filial love. We, as a people, are known for our love for our mothers. On this day, we are reminded to have a special filial love for Mama Mary, our spiritual mother. Through her, we are led closer to her Son, Jesus. By honoring her, we honor the Lord. Let us pray to her, our Queen and Mother, to intercede for us, so that we may be a faithful and loving nation, always under her maternal protection.
